To celebrate Rowlinsons recent sponsorship of Warrington Women’s Futsal Club we caught up with Captain Liv Moore and Coach Colin Powell to find out more.
Colin, can you tell us more about the background of the team?
The starting point of the team, three seasons ago, was that no one had played competitive futsal at any level previously.
Initially, we had to form a new team, all the players had to become accustomed to the laws of the game, the level of the opponent, learn vastly new tactics and techniques as well as compete for points. Our chief aim this year is to continue the progression of the womens team at a very competitive level.
Liv, can you tell us a little about why you play futsal?
It’s pure enjoyment win, lose or draw. The dedication of the girls in this team is second to none. Once you enter the court the noise is turned off from the outside world and you focus on what you want to achieve in that moment.
What are your hopes for the season ahead?
I hope for myself personally that I can progress and develop within the sport. For the team as a whole, I hope we can bring our hard work and dedication into every match to get results. Once again we are ready for battle. People right us off… but look who’s back for another season!
What is the make up of the squad?
We have a diverse age range within the squad with players as young as 16 to some who you would consider vets. A few working mothers are in our squad who somehow find the time to still play and compete at this level. An exceptional group of women who make us proud every time they play.
How does Rowlinsons involvement help the team, Colin?
We are really thankful to Rowlinsons for their kind sponsorship which will help us ensure we keep our female pathway open to all local players.
We are a fairly small town with a smaller player catchment area compared to some of our big city opponents and with no attached university (university programmes support a lot of futsal clubs) so support from local businesses like Rowlinsons is vital.
